Correct Recycling

Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful envisions a world in balance; a world where everything that is created is a resource for something else, and every person takes responsibility for the resources they use, ensuring proper/sustainable disposal.

As a society, our goals should not be to limit our negative impact on the environment, but to have a positive impact. This is the only way to create a sustainable future.

Most wrapping paper is not recyclable and typically does not belong in your curbside recycling container!

Recyclable Wrapping Paper

Upcoming Recycling Collections

Start holding on to those Candy Wrappers!

Candy Wrappers cannot go in your normal recycling, but we are able to collect and send them to @Terracycle, who is able to get them recycled!  Look for collection boxes to start showing up next week at all Toledo Area YMCA Locations.  You can also drop them off at the Toledo Zoo.

Collection will go through November 12th.

Pumpkin and Gourds

It is estimated that of the 2 billion pounds of pumpkins grown in the US, 1.3 billion pounds are thrown away.  It is hard work growing a pumpkin.  No reason to send all of those nutrients to the landfill. In 2020 we collected 18,000 lbs of pumpkins for composting.  Our goal this year is to reach 40,000!  Drop-off locations will be available until December 5th at:

Lakewood Garden Marketplace – 530 Illinois Ave in Maumee (the old Andersons Store).

Sylvania Township Hall – 4927 N. Holland Sylvania Rd. in Sylvania.

Starr Square – 406 S. Wheeling St. in Oregon.

Campaign Signs

Political candidates create an average of 1 sign per 30 registered voters. With over 300,000 voters in Lucas County, that equals 10,000 signs.  Per candidate!  These cannot go in your normal recycling bin.  Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful will be collecting all yard sign types and sizes to send to a specialized processor.  That way we keep them out of the landfill and recycled into something new.  Collection locations are:

Lucas County Democratic Headquarters - 1817 Madison Ave, Toledo

Ottawa Hills Municipal Building - 2125 Richards Rd, Ottawa Hills

City of Perrysburg Department of Public Services - 11980 Roachton Rd.

Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful - 1011 Matzinger Rd. Toledo

This collection will runs through November 22nd.

Pumpkin Patch Composting Collection

Televisions - Including Box/Tube TVs

Flat screen T.V.s are pretty easy to recycle. This is not the case for older Box/Tube TVs. Older TVs are considered a hazardous waste and should not be sent to the landfill. This makes them very difficult to dispose of.

The Lucas County Solid Waste Management District will begin accepting these items beginning November 5th through their Household Hazardous Waste Program.

Call 419-213-2230 to make an appointment. Disposal Fee for both flat screen TVs and Box/Tube TVs is $.50 per pound.
