Beginning in tax year 2014, Lucas County taxpayers applying for the Homestead Exemption will be subject to a means test. The Ohio Adjusted Gross Income needed to qualify for 2018 must be under $32,200.
On June 12, 2014, Amended Substitute House Bill 85 was signed by the Governor of the State of Ohio. This amendment doubles the State's exemption for military men and women with a "100% service-connected total and permanent disability" certified by the federal government from $25,000 to $50,000. This amendment also removes the means test for qualifying veterans.
1) You have to be at least 65 years old (anytime during the calendar year) or permanently or totally disabled.2) If disabled, you are required to have your physician complete the certificate of disability form or submit a certificate from a state or federal agency.3) Own and occupy your own home, or mobile home, or have ownership interest (land contract, lease options), as of January 1 of the application year.4) Applicants for 2018 must have a TOTAL (applicant + spouse - not including social security) household income of no more than $32,200.
You have to turn 65 ANYTIME during 2018. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2018.
The deadline to apply for Homestead is December 31, 2018 by 5 p.m.
